We hope you enjoyed the overview of the new series. First up, let's cover the interview process.

Congrats! You’ve reached the interview stage of the hiring process, which means you’re one step closer to helping shape what's next at Coupa. Whether this is your first-ever corporate interview or you're a seasoned executive, we know these conversations can feel a bit daunting.

At Coupa, you’re not just interviewing for a job at a company with an AI-driven Total Spend Management platform. You are exploring a place in our community—the Coupa Village. We want you to feel supported, prepared, and ready to bring your most authentic self to the conversation.

To help you navigate the hiring process with confidence, our recruiting team put together our top 10 interview tips.

  1. Do your homework.
Make sure you have a solid grasp of the role you’re applying for and our company mission. Spend some time on Coupa.com and our Coupa Stories blog. Look up our recent standing in Gartner or IDC MarketScape reports. We don't just talk about our Core Values—we live them daily. Understanding how we operate will give you a massive advantage.
  2. Connect your experience to our mission.
Your interviewer will ask a variety of questions ranging from your technical skills to what you’re looking for in your next team. Brainstorm ways to directly align your past experiences with Coupa’s goals. How have you driven smarter business decisions or fostered collaboration in your previous roles?
  3. Think beyond the resume (Prepare for Behavioral Questions).
Don’t assume the interviewer knows everything about you just from scanning your CV. At Coupa, we frequently use behavior-based interviewing. Come ready with specific, real-world examples and stories that highlight how you tackle complex challenges, learn from failures, and collaborate across teams.
  4. Practice makes perfect.
Practicing your response to the classic "Tell me about yourself" prompt helps you build a concise, impactful talk track. If you’re participating in a virtual interview, do a test run with your camera, lighting, and microphone to ensure your technology is working flawlessly before you log in.
  5. Bring your own questions.
An interview is a two-way street! This is your chance to interview us, too. Jot down thoughtful questions about the team dynamics, the company culture, or the specific expectations of the role. Curious, dynamic problem-solvers thrive at Coupa, so don't be afraid to ask big questions.
  6. Show up as your authentic self.
While it's important to look professional, it's more important that you feel comfortable and confident. Choose an outfit that makes you feel ready to succeed. When you feel good, your confidence naturally shines through the screen.
  7. Eliminate distractions.
To stay fully present, find a quiet space, close out unnecessary browser tabs, and set your phone to silent. Creating a focused environment allows you to actively listen and engage in a meaningful dialogue with your interviewer.
  8. Relax and take a breath.
It is completely normal to have a few butterflies! Remember that our recruiters and hiring managers are rooting for you. We want to see you succeed. Take a deep breath, trust the preparation you've done, and treat it like a collaborative conversation.
  9. Don’t rush the silence.
If you are asked a complex question, you do not need to answer in milliseconds. It is perfectly fine to say, "That's a great question, let me think about that for a second." Pausing to collect your thoughts shows composure and usually leads to much deeper, more insightful answers.
  10. Be yourself.
The Coupa Village is built on diversity of thought, background, and experience. Rather than putting on a performance or saying what you think we want to hear, be open and honest. We’re interested in the real you and discovering how we can build tomorrow, together.
