Passion Meets Purpose: A Leadership Visit that Energized Coupa India

Recently, Coupa India welcomed Chief Human Resources Officer Susan Tohyama and Chief Product & Technology Officer Salvatore (“Salva”) Lombardo for an unforgettable week of connection, collaboration, and culture in full force. They engaged with teams across offices including over 120 employees who have joined Coupa in the Product and Technology organization.

From lively Town Halls in Pune and Hyderabad, to innovation workshops and high-energy demo sessions, the visit celebrated what makes Coupa India a vital part of our global success story: a shared drive to innovate, build, and shape what’s next — together.

Collaboration as a Way of Life

From the moment Susan and Salva arrived, one thing was immediately clear: Coupa India had found the recipe for success.

“The ‘can do’ attitude here is infectious,” said Susan. “The drive to innovate, build, and solve is unmatched, and what truly stood out to me was how much fun runs through it all. Whether it was good conversations at lunch, all kinds of great dancing at the Coupa party, or the general excitement heard during brainstorm sessions.”

That balance of passion and purpose defines Coupa’s culture, where people come together not only to solve big challenges but also to celebrate the journey along the way.

Innovation and Energy at Every Turn

Salva reflected on the spirit that powered the week. “You could feel the energy in every conversation from our Town Hall with Susan to the collaboration and innovation powering our vision forward. The pride across our Pune and Hyderabad teams truly reflects the best of Coupa’s culture.”

Throughout the visit, teams shared powerful demos, brainstormed ideas for the future of Coupa’s leading AI platform, and connected over how innovation and inclusion continue to move us forward. The conversations were open, the vision was clear, and the excitement was unmistakable.

A Community That Builds Together

For many, the visit was a powerful reminder of Coupa’s culture of connection, belonging, and community. “Moments like these remind us what drives Coupa forward — our people,” shared Susan. “Every conversation reflected deep commitment to innovation, collaboration, and community. I’m so proud of what we’re building together.”

India: Integral to Coupa’s Global Story

Ankur Goyal, VP, Engineering & GM, Coupa India, summed it up perfectly. “The visit reinforced how integral India is to Coupa’s innovation and growth story. We’re not just building products. We’re creating impact. Thank you to Salva and Susan and the Coupa India team for the massive energy and huge turnout!”

Across every conversation, one theme rang true: when passion meets purpose, magic happens.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month , we’re recognizing the women who help shape Coupa every day, not only through leadership roles, but through mentorship, advocacy, collaboration, and the many contributions that often happen behind the scenes. In this special episode of Shaping What’s Next at Coupa , guest host Kiri Christensen , representing Coupa’s Empower Employee Resource Group , sits down with Cindy Yi, Senior Vice President of Global HR Business Partners , to explore the theme of this year’s celebration: Leading the Change. Their conversation goes beyond titles and career paths to talk about the people and moments that shape leadership. Cindy reflects on the leaders who influenced her journey and shares a perspective that resonates across organizations: when people feel supported, challenged, and connected, businesses perform better. The episode also shines a light on the idea of “Unsung Heroines,” the mentors, problem-solvers, and team builders whose impact may not always be visible but is foundational to a strong culture. As Cindy explains, recognizing those contributions matters because it expands how we define leadership and impact. “Leadership doesn’t always come from titles or visibility. When we celebrate mentorship, collaboration, and quiet leadership, we reinforce the behaviors that make organizations great.” The conversation also explores the importance of thoughtful courage, the willingness to ask important questions and contribute perspectives that move conversations forward, regardless of title or tenure. And at the heart of it all is a simple but powerful truth: when people feel their voices and contributions matter, they’re empowered to do their best work. That’s what helps organizations grow, innovate, and shape what’s next. Watch Episode 6: Women’s History Month: Unsung Heroines.
